So, September means the beginning of school, and I must say, I can already tell junior year is going to be a killer. It’s the big one, the one where you take your SAT’s and all the tough classes that enjoy pummeling you while stabbing you at the same time as you study for 3958302 hours, hunched over the textbook. Yeah, a bit of a morbid image there, but the point is, eleventh grade is going to be a doozy. Did I just say doozy? I never say that. But it seemed like the most appropriate word for it.
Guess whose writing I’ve fallen in love with? Stephen King! I read On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft over the summer, and yesterday I finished Misery, which I adored to death. Both of them are written from the point of view of a writer (On Writing is non-fiction written straight from SK’s point of view, while the other is a fictional novel about the fictional fiction writer, Paul Sheldon. Fiction is starting to sound like it’s not a word.). Gosh, the tidbits about writing were so vivid and on the spot. Stephen King, to make a quick understatement, knows what he’s talking about. He knows his stuff. In my wildest, wildest fantasies, he reads my writing and likes it, and I’m sure this fantasy is shared by millions around the world. I’m pretty sure that, if this were to take place in reality, I would have a heart attack. I have made it my quest to devour each and every one of his books, and I encourage you, whomever you might be, to do so as well. I’m probably going to read Carrie next, which will be interesting since it was his first. I want to compare the writing in Carrie and Misery, see how he improved over the years…
Anyway, man, I’m really exhausted. It’s self-inflicted exhaustion, though, since I’ve been staying up past midnight writing as much as I can. I can’t help it. I don’t have a problem, I swear. No, that’s not my eye twitching in a crazed, Annie-Wilkes-esque way, I promise.
Just thought I’d post a little update. Not a very exciting one, so I apologize if this post did nothing but bore you to tears, but I just randomly felt like typing this up. Hope all of you that are back in school are having nice school years so far, and that you have a good weekend!
