EDIT: Just to let you know, the Twitter poser has changed her username to “itslegitlilay”. Unfollow her–hopefully if she loses followers, it will discourage her from posing.
Okay, I wanted to believe that “lilianamumyy” on Twitter was the real thing. I really did. I wanted to think I’d re-connected with an old friend, but because of some actions I took, I now believe her to be an impersonator.
I contacted this “Liliana” through means other than Twitter. I sent a message to her inbox on this other website asking her a specific question that the real Liliana would know the answer to. She never responded to it, and then she let me know that she was having trouble with her inbox and that all of the messages got deleted. This prompted me to send her the question again. She then claimed that someone “hacked” her account on the website and that she couldn’t read her inbox messages. This got me even more suspicious.
Now, keep in mind that, before I sent this message, I had already requested that she make me a video stating my name (as well as my sister’s) to prove that she was the real thing. I didn’t want to be chatting my personal life away with some stranger. She said that she could only make me a video when she could access her brother’s computer (her camera was apparently broken) and that she wouldn’t be able to make the video for a long while because her brother was away at college. I thought this could be a legitimate excuse, so I let it go and carried on talking to her as if she was Liliana (in reality, the poser could be either a boy or a girl, but I will refer to the poser as “she” for the sake of convenience). Again, I wanted to believe it was her. When it comes to cynicism, I usually lie on the less cynical side. Still, logically, shouldn’t Liliana have been able to use another camera? She was taking/posting pictures with that camera, wasn’t she? How could her camera be broken?
Anyway, back to the question I sent her. I thought, okay, if I couldn’t send it to her via that other website, I’ll send her a direct message over Twitter. Immediately after I sent her the confirmation question, there was something on her Twitter that said, “Twitter is acting weird, can’t receive direct messages”. Hmm. So not only was her inbox on the other site malfunctioning/hacked, but her Twitter messages weren’t working, either? Very fishy.
Following this, I sent her a long message on the other website telling her how disappointed I was that she appeared to be an impersonator and kept finding ways to avoid my confirmation question. I told her that it was not only a violation of my privacy but that it was wrong as well. I said that if she was indeed the real Liliana Mumy, I was sorry about the confusion, but that to prove to me she was really Liliana, she could answer my question. Trust me, I was careful in picking my question. It involved a huge part of my experience with Liliana, something she would never forget about. Don’t worry, I made sure it wasn’t some insignificant, forgettable detail. I wanted to ensure that it was a question the real Liliana would know (sorry if I’m repeating myself here). When I logged onto Twitter today, I found that the “lilianamumyy” Twitter no longer allowed me to follow her. Now, if that was the real Liliana, she would have messaged me and explained that I misunderstood and answer the question to prove it was her, or maybe make a video using a working camera. Would the real Liliana block me on Twitter just because I accused her of something untrue? Hell no! She’d do all she could to prove the truth!
I know, she seems really legitimate, doesn’t she? Hey, she fooled me, and she fooled a lot of you, too. I heard from somewhere that not only does Bill Mumy’s official site say Liliana has no Twitter, but the pictures she posted are available on the internet for anyone to access. Meaning that the “Liliana” on Twitter could have been anybody in the world. So, Liliana poser, you’re very skilled at posing as someone else, but don’t you think you should send your talent in a different direction? Perhaps you could be an actor. That way you could be someone you’re not on a day that isn’t Halloween and have it be socially acceptable.
I hope I’ve given a clear enough explanation as to why I came to the conclusion that “lilianamumyy” is not the real Liliana (I’m pretty sure I repeated myself several times, so please forgive me. I’m really exhausted today). As for my twitter being the real me…I assure you that it is! If you ever need additional confirmation of it, I could always make a video or something!
And if the real Liliana’s reading this right now…don’t posers suck?
